What to expect at your first appointment

You will be offered an appointment at a time that best suits you: this may be day time when the children are at school or you may prefer the evening after work. To be able to help you with your problem, you will first need to be assessed.  The more thorough and comprehensive the assessment, the better the outcome of treatment is likely to be.  This is why all appointments last up to forty minutes.

You will be asked a host of questions-and honestly they are all relevant! Then you will be examined, which may require you removing some outer layers of clothing (rest assured your dignity will be maintained throughout.)You are very welcome to bring a pair of shorts with you if you would be more comfortable- but this isn’t necessary, so please don’t feel you have to rush out and buy a little lycra number for the occasion!

After your examination, findings will be discussed with you and a treatment plan outlined and initiated and any home exercises explained and demonstrated. Finally, specific advice  will be discussed.  For example, if your back is always at its worst first thing in the morning, it may be that your mattress is contributing to the problem.  This may be solved by simply putting a duvet on top of your mattress, under your base sheet.

An additional point to note, should your examination highlight the need for you to have further investigations, possibly with an orthopaedic consultant or your G.P. or input from podiatry or pilates, Michelle will readily liaise with her colleagues in the area on your behalf, thus ensuring a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to your treatment.
